Dr de Courcy-Wheeler qualified from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1984. He trained at the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin before moving to London for five years. While there he worked at Hammersmith Hospital, St. Thomas's Hospital, King's College Hospital and Chatham Hospital in Kent. At King's he worked with Professor Kypros Nicolaides in the Harris Birthright Reserach Centre for Fetal Medicine. Returning to Ireland through Belfast he worked at Craigavon Area Hospital and Belfast City Hospital . In 1997 he was appointed to Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry.
